Nursery

As well as offering 15 hours free provision in Nursery, at Hawthorne we (as of September 2019) offer the 30 hours FREE childcare under the Government initiative for all three and four year olds in Nursery. Our nursery provides 26 spaces in the morning and 26 in the afternoon and these numbers include any children accessing 30 hours provision.

15 hour provision

We provide 15 hours provision to all three and four year olds in nursery.
The 15 hours equate to either 5 morning sessions (3 hours per day) or 5 afternoon sessions (3 hours per day) per week. Due to demand, we cannot split the 15 hours across full days as it has an impact on how many nursery spaces we can offer. All children accessing 15 hours provision will therefore attend in the mornings or in the afternoons 5 days per week.

Please be aware that we are currently over-subscribed for nursery places for 2020-2021, particularly for morning sessions and new applications for one of our three intakes next academic year (Sept, Jan, Easter,) are being added to a waiting list.

Session times for September are:
8:30 – 11:30 – Morning nursery session
11:30-12:00 – Lunch club (30 mins)
12:30 – 3:30 – Afternoon nursery session
(Children who are accessing 30 hours will attend nursery 08:30-3:00)

Uniform
School uniform is optional in nursery but the vast majority of parents opt for their children to wear it.
School uniform consists of:
White shirts/polo shirts
Red sweatshirt, jumpers or cardigans
Red and white gingham summer dresses
Plain black shoes
Plain black, grey or white socks/tights
Stud earrings are acceptable but no other jewellery should be worn.
Please be aware that although we have aprons for the children to wear, we do tend to have lots of different crafts, sensory or outdoor play activities and so the children are likely to get messy on occasion.
For toileting reasons and to encourage independence, please feel free to opt for trousers or skirts with an elasticated waist (joggers are fine too) so that they are easier for your child to use.
Sweatshirts and fleeces with the school logo are available from the school office. We usually hold some items in stock, but please allow plenty of time to order.
Plain items without logos are also perfectly acceptable. Tesco have an online service for our uniform, which is a new venture, but allows you to pay online and collect in store.
PLEASE ENSURE ALL CLOTHING IS MARKED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME

30 hours free childcare
To check your eligibility for 30 hours of free provision, please visit www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.
If you are eligible, your child can access their place from the start of the school term after their third birthday.

If your application for 30 hours is successful you will be given an eligibility code. In order for your child to access their 30 hours provision at nursery (subject to spaces) you will need to complete a 30 hours form from our school office and return to school as soon as possible.  The school will also require, if not already held, a nursery application form completing.

Please be aware that we are currently over-subscribed for nursery places for 2020-2021, particularly for morning sessions and new applications for one of our three intakes next academic year (Sept, Jan, Easter,) are being added to a waiting list.

These timings provide 30 hours of provision, Monday to Friday during term time only.

(Children who are accessing 30 hours will attend nursery 08:30-3:00)

School dinners
Currently, only children accessing 30 hours of provision are able to join our Lunch Club. Parents can opt to send their child with a packed lunch or pay for a school dinner. Please click below for the menu:

Lunch club

For children who access 30 hours of provision, parents/carers have the option of paying for their child to stay for lunch. Lunch Club will enable your child to stay at school during the time between the morning and afternoon sessions. Lunch club operates from 11:30-12:00 for an additional charge of £2.50 per child per day which will be payable at the start of the week at the School Office. If your child attends Lunch Club, you can either send them to school with a packed lunch or pay for a school dinner. The children accessing lunch club eat their lunch in a small group and also have time to play outside before the afternoon nursery session begins.

Lunch club is currently only available to children accessing 30 hours.

Cool Milk
If you would like your child to have milk during snack time, you will need to register via Cool Milk. You will have a form sent to you in your child’s new starter pack but it is very straightforward to register online. Even though milk if free for children in nursery, you do need to register for your child to receive milk at school.

Staffing

The teacher in nursery is Mrs Mills.

Our teaching assistants are Mrs Livingstone and Mrs Newton.

Admissions
Admission to Nursery is dependent upon spaces being available. We apply the same admission principles as those outlined in the Nottinghamshire County Admissions Policy. Please use the form above to apply for a Nursery place.

Older children who have deferred school places will be given consideration for a nursery place only after all children of nursery age have been allocated places.  Deferred children will then be considered for any remaining places following the criteria in the Nottinghamshire County Admissions Policy.

Once you have completed and returned your application form, our Office Manager will send you a letter confirming receipt of your application, please note that this does not guarantee your child a place.

If your child is due to start nursery in the next academic term, a member of our nursery team will contact you to let you know the availability of spaces.
Once your child has been offered a place, we will contact you to arrange a home visit. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are currently unable to do home visits.

For children who have been offered a nursery place and who are due to join our nursery in September 2020, we will be doing individual Zoom calls in lieu of home visits.

As our nursery is currently closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the cohort of children who were due to start in Easter have had their start delayed until September.

A member of our nursery team will contact you over the next few weeks to confirm your child’s start date. Our nursery starters will be staggered so that our existing cohort can transition back into school for a few days before new children join.
