Curriculum Vision

At Hawthorne Primary School, our children are at the heart of everything that we do. Our school values underpin all that we do, putting children at the heart of every decision:

Aspiration – Celebrating Diversity – Creativity – Confidence – Enjoyment – Honesty – Perseverance Pride – Respect - Responsibility

Every day, we aim to live together harmoniously, laugh a lot and learn. We champion every child to have the knowledge, confidence and aspiration to become the best version of themselves so that they can make a positive contribution in an ever-changing world.

Our curriculum is both knowledge rich and experiential, which has been carefully designed and developed, reflective of the needs and interests of all our children.  We equip our children with the skills which will support them on their next stage in education and the wider world.

In order to achieve this our curriculum is underpinned by the following 4 principles:

Rich Vocabulary - Experiential - Aspiration - Life Skills

Rich Vocabulary

Vocabulary and reading are at the heart of our curriculum. Our curriculum is carefully planned, through high quality texts and experiences, so that children develop their vocabulary. Early Reading is built upon and embedded over time. This develops a wide range of vocabulary and a love of reading.

Experiential

Our children will be provided with ‘real’, memorable experiences, through purposeful learning. They will be provided with opportunities that enable them to move beyond their lived experiences, further developing their cultural capital.

Aspiration

Our children will hold high aspirations for themselves, and the local community. They will understand the importance of not giving up and demonstrate resilience when faced with difficulties; knowing the importance of striving for our goals. They will be prepared for the next stage of their journey and be equipped to make choices about their future aspirations.

Life skills

Our children will be equipped with the life skills to enable them to make choices that will keep them safe in the wider world. They will make a positive contribution to and be for prepared for life in the modern world.
